🧵 Crochet & Amigurumi News of the Week

Let’s dive into what’s been going on in the yarn world lately!

🛍️ Michaels Acquires Big Twist from Joann’s

In a major move, Michaels has acquired Big Twist yarn following the closure of Joann Fabrics. This means Michaels will expand its yarn offerings by about 25%, which includes Big Twist and other brands.

As a Canadian, I never had Joann’s locally, so I’m curious if this acquisition means Big Twist might be coming to Canada. 🤞 I once grabbed some Big Twist Rainbow Bright on a trip to Buffalo and used it in a granny hexagon hoodie and it's one of my favourite pieces! I’d love to get my hands on more!

🚫 Hobbii No Longer Shipping to Select Countries

In unfortunate news, Hobbii has stopped shipping to Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, and New Zealand. While they haven’t given an official reason, rising international shipping costs seem to be the cause. 😔

You can read more about it in this Reddit thread. Hopefully, this opens the door for other small yarn businesses to fill the gap—like the incredible Chenille Yarn by Crochet Me Zaddy in Australia!

⭐ Currently Trending!

Lacework! I'm seeing it everywhere I look, from summer accessories to full wedding dresses what ever the occasion it seems like lace is back in.

Honourable mention goes to crochet Labubu's! I myself made one of these oddly terrifying but still cute creatures and I must say I love my crochet Labubu!

🌈 Furls Releases the AURA Hook

Furls has dropped a stunning new crochet hook: the AURA, designed in celebration of Pride! This is my first-ever Furls hook and I have to say—it’s absolutely stunning. The moment you hold it, you can feel the quality. I wish I could collect the whole set! 😍

This Weeks Cro-WOW

Goes to this absolutely amazing tapestry project by Organic_repair8717 on reddit. As someone who is new to the world of tapestry crochet (you can see my first attempt here) I was so blown away bet the level of details and complex colours! Go give them some love (see OG post here).

🔥 Your Hot Takes!

This weeks hot take goes to ashjem4447 asee the full comment below but essentially they are talking about people who are into crochet and only seem to talk about how you can make money from it and try to get others into it with quick free patterns that sell well at markets and don’t focus on the actual love for the art form.

I couldn't agree more, as someone who has turned his love for crochet into a business it was only my passion and love for the art that got me here and keeps me driven to continue. There are some who only see the monetary gains and will even go as far as selling drop shipped crochet at markets claiming it to be theirs! Thank you Ash for your hot take of the week.

📚 New Crochet Books

✏️ Studio updates

We recently did a little make over of the studio space, if you haven’t seen he first part of that yet you can check it out here https://youtu.be/nx1EAeWhPlA but I am loving how it turned out and I can wait to share it all with you! We also have a new Knotty Bear pattern coming out very soon, Lucia the Luna Moth but more on that soon.

I’m also working on a collaborative with a new yarn which I can talk about yet however there will be a pattern involved in that and I also might be selling one of the finish plushies so be sure to stay tuned for that!

But that’s its for this weeks Knotty News, thanks you everyone for reading and I will see you in the next one.  Stay Knotty Friends.
